The average cost of life in Italy is quite different from region to region. Cost of living in the Southern regions is very low compare to the Centre and the North. Of course, there are also a lot differences when you compare cities and countryside.

One of the best region in order to live in Italy is definitely Tuscany. Some cities in Tuscany, as Florence, Siena, Lucca, or Pisa, are known worldwide due to their history, landscapes, and quality of life. However, the cost of life compared to the other regions is one of the highest in Italy. According to ISTAT data, (it is possible to see all the data in our free calculator), Tuscany is the most expensive region after Trentino-Alto Adige and Lombardy. Nevertheless, this high cost of life is completely justified by quality of life, the level of remuneration, the level of services provided, and a territorial heterogeneity. For example, if you live in Florence and some other main cities, the cost of life is quite higher compared to some minor cities or the countryside.

How is life in Tuscany?

Cities and countryside You can live in rural villages or art cities, near the sea or in the mountains. The amazing Tuscan landscapes are considered some of the most beautiful and distinctive attraction in the world. All this places are quite well connected by train or highway and you have everything you need at hand.

Art & History Florence and other Tuscan cities are the cradle of the Renaissance. Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo Buonarroti, and many others artists were born in Tuscany. The region is plenty of museums, libraries, theatres, and art galleries. You can find them from Florence (the most important Tuscan city) to small villages.

Economy Maybe, this is the lesser-known side of Tuscany, but the economy in the region is highly developed especially in the Northern part (Lucca, Pistoia, Prato, and Florence). For example, in Tuscany there is the most important tissue district in Europe. Tuscany is at the top in four main industrial sectors: fashion, luxury and clothing, shipbuilding industry, tissue & paper and pharmaceutical industry. Furthermore, the unemployment rate in the region is very low compared to the region in the Centre and in the South.

Food & Wine Tuscany is also well known for its different varieties of food and wine. From the mountains to the sea, it is possible to taste disparate type of vegetables, meats and fruits. Tuscan wines are the best in Italy with its top varieties of red and white wines.

Being part of community It something special that we have in Italy, but especially in Tuscany. Either you live in a small village, in a big city or in the countryside you can always be a part of the community, where everybody knows everybody. It possible to find true and authentic human relations, not only with your families, but also with neighbours and other citizens.
